Stepping into the Interview Room

In our most recent mentorship session, mentees had the opportunity to step into one of the most critical stages of professional development, the job interview. The session was designed as an interview simulation exercise, giving participants a practical taste of what it means to put themselves forward in a competitive recruitment process.

Before the exercise, mentees were asked to prepare their CVs for a fictional job application. With documents in hand and nerves buzzing, they then attended mock interviews, replicating a real-world recruitment experience. This structured approach not only tested their readiness but also offered them the chance to reflect on their own strengths and areas for growth.

We were especially privileged to be joined by Ms. Reatile Molefe, Graduate Recruitment Consultant at Bowman’s South Africa, who graciously facilitated the mock interviews. With her wealth of knowledge and experience in graduate recruitment, Ms. Molefe guided each interview with professionalism and care. She offered practical, constructive feedback, helping mentees understand how to tailor their CVs, sharpen their responses, and present themselves with confidence and clarity.

For many of our mentees, the session was an eye-opening experience. Beyond interview techniques, they learned the importance of preparation, authenticity and self-awareness in the recruitment journey. The feedback and encouragement they received will serve as lasting tools, not only for their next interview but for their broader career growth.

What made the session particularly powerful was the safe and supportive environment it provided. Mentees were able to practice, make mistakes, and ask questions without fear of judgment, turning what can often be an intimidating process into an empowering and transformative learning opportunity.

As SWCM continues to grow, our vision remains clear, to create meaningful mentorship experiences that support personal and professional development. This interview simulation was just one of many steps in that journey and it highlighted the incredible value of collaboration with professionals who are passionate about nurturing the next generation of leaders.
