NYELETI
RIKHOTSO
Nyeleti Rikhotso is a soon to be Bachelor of Laws graduate from the University of Pretoria (UP), driven by a passion for creating social impact through digital storytelling. She forms part of a new generation of legal thinkers who understand that the law does not exist in isolation it lives in the stories people tell, the narratives that shape public consciousness and the ways communities make sense of justice. Her commitment to community-orientated work and engagement was first cultivated during her two-year service on the Law House Outreach and Socials subcommittees.
Her service to the Faculty of law student body in the University of Pretoria exposed her to critical modern challenges being faced by legal students who sought to navigate the legal fraternity in a pressing effort to someday become competent and proficient legal practitioners. A prevalent issue she sought to address is the ineffective communication of resources and opportunities available to young aspiring legal professionals. She identified that legal students struggled with information overload, misinformation, and disinformation, arising from the prevalence of social media platforms.
Nyeleti identified that authentic storytelling is an essential means that must be utilised to resonate with present and future generations of aspiring legal professionals and combat the overload of inauthentic media. To implement her vision and better equip herself so as to make impactful and long-lasting contributions, Nyeleti embarked on her mentorship journey with SWCM NPC as a mentee, in which she acquired invaluable insight and practical knowledge. Empowering her in becoming a contributor to thought and dialogue on the issues she had previously identified and felt convicted to address. She later transitioned into an alumni and begun actively engaging within SWCM NPC initiatives, contributing new perspectives and propelling the visions and values of the organisation by being the voice for her generation of young aspiring legal professionals.
In her ongoing work she has powerfully demonstrated the art of narrative storytelling through her spoken word performances at the SWCM Annual Colloquiums in 2023 and 2024. Illustrating the far-reaching impact authentic storytelling possess in facilitating sustainable impact and cementing a legacy for present and future generations of legal practitioners. Nyeleti currently stands as a deeply curious individual, fully equipped and ready to chart innovative new paths of her own. This has led to her serving as both an Internal Editor and Managing Editor for the Pretoria Student Law Review (PSLR) board from 2023 to 2025, sharpening her editorial voice and narrative vision.
Her journey with SWCM from mentee to alumni and contributor reflects her belief in the power of mentorship and community‑rooted development. She understands that transformation is not an individual pursuit but a collective one, built through shared learning, intergenerational support and the courage to speak openly about difficult truths. Nyeleti’s contributions to SWCM embody her commitment to creating spaces where young people can explore their potential, articulate their experiences and develop the confidence to step into professional and civic life. Her excellence and growth are testament to the impactful and empowering initiatives of SWCM NPC.
