Tlou Lekgau

Tlou Lekgau is a BCom Law graduate and a final-year student at the University of Pretoria. Her jurisprudential dissertation investigates the historical forced removals in the Zevenfontein farms, now part of Johannesburg, where ancestral graves were unjustly exhumed for property development. Tlou examines the impact of this on cultural practices, questioning how the right to cultural heritage can exist when ancestral worship is disregarded. She argues that such dispossessions disrupt the social fabric and erase cultural identities, affecting Black people’s participation in the post-1994 constitutional framework. Driven by a vision of justice and equality, Tlou aspires to become a future Chief Justice, dedicated to addressing these injustices.
