ODIRILE

MATLADI

Odirile Matladi is a legal practitioner, published author, teacher and scholar whose work reflects a deep commitment to justice, intellectual rigour and transformative empowerment. She is currently reading for a Master of Laws degree in Law & Political Justice at the University of Pretoria, where her research explores sovereignty, human rights, development and environmental justice, grounded in the Azanian Philosophical Tradition.

Her academic journey is marked by both breadth and depth, as she holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce in Law both from the University of Pretoria and serves as an academic associate in the Department of Jurisprudence. In this role, she forms part of the team responsible for teaching undergraduate legal philosophy, a space in which she brings together her scholarly grounding, her passion for critical inquiry and her commitment to shaping thoughtful, socially conscious legal minds.

Odirile’s leadership qualities and dedication to community are demonstrated by her time in the Jacaranda City (Pretoria), engaging in meaningful student-orientated initiatives and held several management roles within the TuksRes Women in Leadership Academy (TRWLA), an organisation dedicated to leadership and personal development for women in residence. Her progression to Director and member of the Eldership Board reflects her capacity to lead with intention, empathy and clarity of purpose. Her academic excellence was further recognised in 2021 when she was named one of GradStar’s Top 100 Students nationwide an honour awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, leadership capability and workplace readiness.

Her relationship with SWCM NPC is one defined by service, vision and a sustained commitment to youth empowerment. Over the years, she has contributed in various capacities to the organisation’s growth and impact. Most notably, she was entrusted with developing a bespoke mentorship programme designed to support the holistic development of SWCM mentees. Reflecting her belief in the transformative power of community, intentional mentorship and accessible pathways into the legal profession.

Odirile’s intellectual depth, reflective insight, principled leadership and a grounded sense of purpose shape every aspect of her work. She is driven by the deep desire to effect meaningful change, particularly through the empowerment of women and marginalised communities.

Her ambition is not only to excel as a legal scholar and practitioner, but to contribute to the development of the law in ways that protect, uplift and benefit all people. She approaches the legal profession as a site of both responsibility and possibility, one where intellectual rigour must meet ethical purpose, and where the pursuit of justice must be grounded in compassion, community and a commitment to collective upliftment. Embodying the kind of leadership and qualities that SWCM NPC seeks to cultivate.
