Pinsent Masons Internship 2024

The Internship programme with Pinsent Masons Johannesburg is for a fixed period of 12 months. During this period successful candidates will gain practical legal experience in an international law firm environment and will be provided with an opportunity to understand more about how a law firm operates. The successful candidates will be working with our other fee earners gaining valuable work experience while also receiving additional training which will complement the candidates existing academic experience and promote students to acquire the skills to prepare them to exercise their professional activity and facilitating their employability.

You will undertake specific tasks during your internship which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Research specific legal issues
  • Research other factual, historical or commercial matters
  • Prepare for client interviews
  • Analyse corporate searches
  • Review and preparation of documents
  • Review clients’ papers
  • Assist with due diligence enquiries
  • Assist with arbitration and/or litigation preparation

In addition, to help you develop these skills, you will be required to:

  • To apply practical and theoretical knowledge to the professional reality
  • Development of learning ability
  • Autonomy in the performance of activities
  • Ease of adaptation
  • Ability to work in a team and interact in the workplace
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Sense of responsibility
  • Understanding of the need for ethical behaviour

You will learn how to:

  • Prioritize tasks
  • Set and meet deadlines
  • Review and report progress on matters

 

Training

  • You will gain practical training in the business of a law practice
  • You will participate in internal and external training programs
  • You will be assigned a mentor to assist you in your transition to the working world

 

Minimum requirements:

  • LLB degree / Final year LLB student – 65% average
  • Candidates must be a South African citizen
  • Candidates must hold a valid South African ID document
  • Candidates must be fluent in English
  • Candidate must be willing to work flexible hours
  • Candidates must be computer literate

 

Supervision:

The internship will be conducted over a fixed 12 months’ period, throughout this period you will be supervised in all aspects. Towards the end of your internship, there may be scope for you to apply for a candidate attorney role.
