ANNUAL COLLOQUIUM

The SWCM Annual Colloquium is a pivotal event that convenes professionals in the legal field, as well as those aspiring to join the profession. The year 2023 marked a significant milestone—the centenary commemoration of the first women being allowed to join the legal profession in South Africa, following the promulgation of the Women Legal Practitioners Act 7 of 1923. While this historical step marked the beginning of women’s inclusion in the legal profession, the journey toward true equality has been fraught with challenges. Women in the profession continue to face institutionalized exclusion, discrimination, sexual harassment, and bullying, underscoring the need for ongoing transformation.

The 3rd Annual Colloquium focused on the urgent need to accelerate the advancement of women in the legal profession. The theme, “Transformation Tools to Expedite Women’s Advancement in the Legal Profession,” aimed to spark a critical dialogue between women and men from all areas of the profession.
